Dynamic Website Content

What is a "Dynamic Web Site"?
There are two types of web sites and they serve very specific purposes:

  • Static: The content does not change from day-to-day, or per site visitor, and changes are typically made on a local computer, then uploaded to the website.
  • Dynamic: Content can change from day to day, per user, or some other trigger (date, time of day, user login name, etc). These sites most often receive their content from a database or possibly a news (RSS) feed.

When might you want to use one over another? It depends on the type of site you are going to create. For example, a web site who's purpose is to introduce your company to the public, give contact information, or driving directions could be static.

On the otherhand, a shoe company may wish to publish sale information, promote new products, or any other "time sensative" content that will display when appropriate, and disappear when not.

You may also want to use a dynamic site to "remember" visitors, offer specials and discounts to "members", or any other time where you want to capture and remember frequent site visitors.
